Wanna enhance the knowledge along with making friends? Or wanna widen network across ASEAN through interesting and fabulous scientific activities? This camp is your avenue!!

OVERVIEW

We have realized the importance of student preparation for the ASEAN Community in 2015, especially in terms of academic strength and collaboration. Beside the preparation for the academic strength, the understanding of other ASEAN cultures, social values and languages are also another important factor for the success of ASEAN Community 2015. Therefore, Center for International Cooperation Promotion, Faculty of Science together with ASEAN Youth Friendship Network (AYFN) decide to organize CU-AYFN ASEAN Science Camp 2015, allowing Thai and ASEAN students in various majors to interactively learn about science, and at the same time, to exchange cultures and languages and improve their English communication skills.

The camp will include scientific lectures and workshops in the following ASEAN-distinctive science topics below to help facilitating the knowledge sharing, strengthening the scientific knowledge, and establishing the ASEAN science youth network among ASEAN students:

(1) Environmental problems

(2) Natural disaster management

(3) Biodiversity

OBJECTIVES                     

1)     To provide an opportunity for ASEAN students to learn, exchange, share and discuss their ideas and knowledge on the scientific topics of climate change and natural disaster management, food safety and biodiversity.

2)      To establish the ASEAN science youth network

3)      To learn and understand other ASEAN cultures, languages and social values.

 

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION  

CU-AYFN ASEAN Science Camp 2015 consists of following activities:

  1. Lectures, workshops and discussion on ASEAN integration, Environmental problems and Natural disaster,  and Biodiversity
  2. Biodiversity and geology workshops at Erawon National Park
  3. Site visit at the Plant Genetic Conservation Project under the Royal Initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Kanchanaburi
  4. Cultural and history tours in Kanchaburi
  5. Charity activities at orphanage home in Kanchaburi province, and
  6. Cultural performances by Thai and AYFN students

  3. Good communication skill and knowledge
  4. Able to work independently as well as work in team
  5. Able to pay the program fee
  6. Able to commit to a full time program

  3. AYFN will review your application and confirm you whether you are accepted or not afterward. Candidate will receive invitation letter if acknowledged to be accepted.

Overview

 

We have realized the importance of student preparation for the ASEAN Economy Community (AEC) in 2015, especially in terms of academic strength and collaboration. Having successfully conducted 1st ASEAN Science Camp 2013, ASEAN Youth friendship Network (AYFN) and Center for International Cooperation Promotion, Faculty of Science, ChulalongkornUniversity would like to hold one of kind camp as the lead in organizing scientific lectures and workshops in the following ASEAN-distinctive science topics below to help facilitating the knowledge sharing, strengthening the scientific knowledge, and establishing the ASEAN science youth network among ASEAN students:

(1) Climate change and natural disaster management

(2) Food safety

(3) Biodiversity

Beside the preparation for the academic strength, the understanding of other ASEAN cultures, social values and languages are also another important factor for the success of AEC. 2ndASEAN Science Camp 2014, allowing Thai and ASEAN students in various majors to interactively learn about science, and at the same time, to exchange cultures and languages and improve their English communication skills.

2nd ASEAN Science Camp will tentatively include the lecture on ASEAN integration by Executive director of ASEAN University Network (AUN), the climate change, natural disaster management and food safety workshops from the distinguished faculty members invited from Faculty of Science and Faculty of Engineering, CU, the biodiversity tours in Center for Learning Network for the Region, Saraburi campus and Khaoyai National Park guided by faculty members in Biology Department, the cultural show and the charity activities in Nonthaburi.

Activity Description

  3. Site visit at Food production and packaging and biofuel pilot plants at Center for Learning Network for the Region, Saraburi campus
  4. Cultural shows
  5. Charity activities at orphanage home in Nonthaburi province.

AYFN Science Camp

Bangkok, 13 – 18 May 2013

 

About ASC

ASC is a student meeting between Indonesia and Thailand in order to obtain knowledge exchange, cultural understanding and friendship as well. The primary mission of this program is to promote knowledge and cultural exchange, friendship, leadership and mutual understanding. This program will involve students from both countries and will take place in Bangkok, Thailand.

 

Main programs:

AYFN Science camp offers some interesting programs that suit your knowledge. Here are some main agendas as follow:

  1. Lecture on specific topics (Climate change issue, population in Southeast Asia region and disaster-flood management)
  2. Language exchange program (Thai and Bahasa Indonesia)
  3. Biodiversity field trip
  4. Discussion and meeting between Indonesian and Thai students
  5. Cultural tour in Bangkok

How does the AYFN Science Camp will work?

  1. Participants will be paired up (Some participants from Indonesia and Participants from Thailand).
  2. The event will combine sense of knowledge, friendship and cultural awareness.
  3. Indonesian students will live for one week in Bangkok and accompanied by Thai student during program.
  4. Participants will be involved in social trip.

 

Location of AYFN Science Camp

ASC will be held in Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University. This program is collaboration program between AYFN Indonesia and Faculty of Science, CU.

 

Duration of Science camp

The camp will take place on 13 – 18 May 2013.  During week long program, the participants will do cultural exchange, idea exchange, social trip and of course cultural tour around Bangkok. The participants will start their program at 7.30 a.m – 5.00 p.m everyday. In the evening, participants will have free time to explore the magnificent of Bangkok or go shopping.

 

Accommodation and meal

During ASC program in Bangkok, participants will stay in hotel. Location of the hotel is Sathorn, quite near from Chulalongkorn University and shopping center (only 2,5 Km). The ambiance of the hotel around is very comfortable to enjoy Bangkok. The accommodations are a popular and a very sociable option as you get to live and socialize with other participants and Thai buddies.  Living conditions in the hotel are very good, 2/3 stars hotel. Males and females are accommodated in separate room and per room will be occupied by 2 – 3 people.

Thailand is renowned for its tasty and diverse foods. Meals will be provided based on schedule. Meals consist of traditional Thai dishes (NOT CONTAINS PORK), which participants generally find to be very generous and tasty. If you have special eating needs, please let us know ahead of time so that we can make arrangements for you. However, we need to stress the point that you should not expect to eat as you normally do at home. We will do our best to see that you are well taken care of, but also as a participant, there is a need to be flexible. There are numerous amazing restaurants throughout Bangkok which you will be directed to by program staff if you wish to eat out occasionally.

 

Participants’ requirements:

The candidates of ASC program should meet the criteria as follow:

  • Must be 18 – 25 Years old
  • Must be students from faculty of Sciences, Geography, Engineering, Forestry, Medicine, Agriculture, or related faculties.
  • Able to speak English (Toefl is not required)
  • Commit to join full program (pre, on , and post program)
  • Able to adapt new environment easily
  • Health physically and mentally

 

How to apply

There are two kinds of registration way:

For candidate who apply individually:

  1. Download the application form, fill it completely and send back into ayfn.hq@gmail.com
  2. Along with your application, you MUST enclose essay in the topic of Disaster Management, Climate Change, Global Warming or Urbanization è choose one topic. The format of essay :

For individual participants: Minimum 300 words, English, times new roman 12, line space 1,5, academic writing  (foot note, citation, book references must be enclosed)

  1. The committee will confirm you whether you are accepted or not.
  2. Deadline of application : 18 April 2013 before 23.00

 

For candidates who apply in group (min 3 students in group)

  1. Download the application form, fill it completely.
  2. Along with your application, you MUST enclose essay in the topic of Disaster Management, Climate Change, Global Warming or Urbanization è choose one topic. The format of essay :

For group participants: Minimum 1,000 words, English, times new roman 12, line space 1,5, academic writing (foot note, citation, book references must be enclosed)

  1. All application form from each group members and the group essay must be saved into one folder (zip or rar) :, then send it into ayfn.hq@gmail.com
  2. The committee will confirm you whether you are accepted or not.
  3. Deadline of application : 18 April 2013 before 23.00

 

ASC program cost

One of the AYFN’s strength is to provide high quality program, but still affordable. Program cost should be paid after being accepted. To join ASC Program (one week program), participants must donate (choose one)

-          IDR 3,500,000,-. (Individually) , IDR 3,200,000,- early bird registration (before 12 April)

-          IDR 3,000,000 each participants if apply 3 students or more in one group. (we strongly recommend you apply in group)

Term and condition: If you apply in group, each members in group must go together to attend ASC Program to Bangkok.

 

What do participants’ fees for?

Program Fee – Airport pick up in Bangkok, orientation, All activities indicated on schedule (lecture, discussion, language exchange, cultural tour, social work, etc), certificate of completion, program supervision, accommodation (7D6N) and meals during program period as indicated on schedule, In-country 24/7 support and In-country administration costs.

 

What additional cost should participants have?

Flight expenses, passport fee, personal insurance, personal expense.
